Estimating the nanny time-off usage

Some parents trust their nannies proactivity while their children take naps

Other parents complain about their nannies spending time on the phone at work. They feel they are paying the nanny to do "nothing".

More and more nannies use their phones at work. They continually text with parents throughout the day. Nannies like to comfort parents about the safety of their children by sending them photos or videos with their children's actual activity. The phone is also the only way to update the parents about their children's location.

The nanny's use of the phone during breaks is not considered using the phone at work. Sometimes nannies sacrifice a meal or a trip to the bathroom prioritizing work. Frequently, nannies use their phones at work to learn new fun projects to do with the children. Occasionally, they conduct research related to work for example to find out reasons for the new rash she discovered that morning on a child's back. Perhaps she uses her break to finish an expensive child development class online that parents will benefit from. It may also happen that she could visit Amazon.com looking for that PJ Mask hero for the child's upcoming birthday while he naps.

After knowing what the media collects from people that can destroy their entire life, nannies are more reserved on social media. The safety of children is the most important affair for a nanny.

The schedule for the nanny leaves no room to attend personal or family events that simply can't be ignored. The nanny's home and family responsibilities must be conducted during open hours and most nannies work Monday through Friday until everything closes for the day, the reason why nannies rely on their breaks to pay utilities and to make appointments by phone. Chances are, the exact time one parent may certainly enter the room just to "catch" the nanny on the phone.

Ideally, nannies rely on an empath employer that will not condone her for using her phone during her breaks for personal, home and family responsibilities. After all,  one of the main characteristics parents require from a nanny is to be responsible. Practicing responsibility on a personal level coincidently with work reinforces the virtue of the nanny.

The right moment to hire help

Ideally, the moment you choose life to expand your family is the moment to find help.

There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a child, and there exist communities in other cultures where people take this literally. Unfortunately, in our culture, we can't expect our parents, sisters, brothers, or even cousins to come live with us while our babies grow. Mom and Dad usually go through all the phases of pregnancy and postpartum alone. There is nothing to be afraid of, and there is much to learn. However, in our US culture, the industry is growing at its fastest pace each day. Child care professionals have adopted the services of teachers and nurses, and more and more, other agencies are joining our communities to provide complete support to parents. Doulas, postpartum Doulas, lactation consultants, and early baby educators come together to offer new parents all the support they need, beginning in the early stages of pregnancy.

Education and experience are sometimes not necessary when new professionals can prove their education in each field. However, many times, education and experience are obtained by the verified number of years a provider has worked with parents and children.

There are many ways to find help.

Your OB/GYN can recommend reliable child care help, and here is a list you can refer to find help for your family.

  • Agencies,
  • Doulas
  • Word of mouth recommendations
