Newborn Care Specialist (NCS)

The first weeks of your baby’s life are precious — and they set the tone for healthy sleep habits, feeding success, and a smooth family adjustment.
As a Certified Newborn Care Specialist (NCS), my focus is on providing expert, hands-on care for your newborn so you can rest, recover, and feel confident in your baby’s routine.

When to Choose NCS Support

NCS care is ideal for families who:

  • Need specialized newborn care beyond the first 1–2 weeks after birth
  • Want guidance on sleep conditioning and feeding schedules
  • Prefer help during overnight hours so parents can sleep while the baby is safely cared for
  • May not require postpartum recovery support for the birthing parent but still want professional baby care

An NCS is typically hired for 6–8 weeks, with the option to extend services based on your family’s needs.

Day Shift vs. Night Shift Care

Daytime NCS Care often includes:

  • Supporting parents in active newborn care throughout the day
  • Feeding assistance (breast/chest or bottle)
  • Monitoring developmental cues and behaviors
  • Light baby-related household tasks (laundry, cleaning bottles and pump parts)
  • Parent education on soothing, swaddling, and safe sleep practices

Overnight NCS Care focuses on:

  • Direct supervision of your baby throughout the night — I prefer to be physically near the baby rather than relying solely on a monitor, so I can hear breathing patterns and provide immediate comfort if needed
  • Feeding your baby or bringing them to you for feeding, depending on your preference
  • Tracking feeding times, diaper changes, and sleep patterns for your records
  • Keeping all baby items clean and ready for the next day

Why Parents Choose My NCS Services

With over two decades of experience as a professional nanny, Postpartum Doula, and Newborn Care Specialist, I bring:

  • A gentle, calm approach to helping babies settle into healthy routines
  • In-depth knowledge of newborn behavior and development
  • Safe and attentive overnight monitoring
  • Respect for your parenting choices, while providing proven guidance when needed

Related Services

If your primary need is emotional and physical recovery support for the birthing parent during the first days after labor, my Postpartum Doula Services may be a better fit.
For long-term care beyond the newborn stage, please visit my Professional Nanny Services page.

If you want, I can now draft your Professional Nanny Services page so that parents see the third tier of care you provide — ongoing childcare for infants, toddlers, and beyond.
That way, all three pages will connect seamlessly and link to each other.

The right moment to hire help

Ideally, the moment you choose life to expand your family is the moment to find help.

There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a child, and there exist communities in other cultures where people take this literally. Unfortunately, in our culture, we can't expect our parents, sisters, brothers, or even cousins to come live with us while our babies grow. Mom and Dad usually go through all the phases of pregnancy and postpartum alone. There is nothing to be afraid of, and there is much to learn. However, in our US culture, the industry is growing at its fastest pace each day. Child care professionals have adopted the services of teachers and nurses, and more and more, other agencies are joining our communities to provide complete support to parents. Doulas, postpartum Doulas, lactation consultants, and early baby educators come together to offer new parents all the support they need, beginning in the early stages of pregnancy.

Education and experience are sometimes not necessary when new professionals can prove their education in each field. However, many times, education and experience are obtained by the verified number of years a provider has worked with parents and children.

There are many ways to find help.

Your OB/GYN can recommend reliable child care help, and here is a list you can refer to find help for your family.

  • Agencies,
  • Doulas
  • Word of mouth recommendations
  • Indeed
  • Facebook
  • Online NVS/PPD and Professional Nannies Websites
  • Google search
  • Workforce Commission

On this website, I have collected all the steps necessary to hire the right person. Although it is up to you at what stage of your pregnancy or motherhood you need someone, you might have already decided on the time you anticipate needing help.

If you need help deciding, I can offer the options as your guide.

Read books. Choose the books to read from the list to continue with this journey on your own.

Of course, please listen to your OB/GYN recommendations during pregnancy, learn all the classes they provide at the hospital. At the hospital, you will learn all the basics to care for your new baby.
